CCEDF announces First Impressions grant program

The Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation announces its Community First Impressions Grant Program. Inspired by the First Impressions programs recently conducted by Mississippi State Community Action Team in Ackerman, Weir, and French Camp, the Foundation has set aside a fixed amount of funds to assist applicants that seek to enhance the curbside appeal of the communities within the county.

Funds for this program are made available through revenues from the sale of ash from the Red Hills Power Plant.

The maximum single grant award that may be made is $5,000 and matching funds of at least 30 percent of the total cost of the project are required. Projects that will improve the broad appeal of the community are preferred. Community service oriented organizations as well as municipal governments are encouraged to apply for assistance.

Items eligible for funding assistance include, but are not limited to, community beautification and enhancement projects; building repair/renovation and landscaping enhancements of facilities serving the community; community garden, park, or playground projects; and community clean-up initiatives.

Grant applications will be accepted until August 14, for projects that will occur between September 14, and February 28, 2010.

All decisions regarding awarding or not awarding grants are made at the sole discretion of the Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation Board of Directors. Applicants will be notified of decisions no later than September 11. Projects must be completed and requests for reimbursement submitted by March 31, 2010.

Grant guidelines and application forms are available at the Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation office.

If you have questions about the 2009-2010 Community First Impressions Grant Program, please contact the Foundation at 285-3778.
