Ackerman Mayor Dick Cain won his reelection bid for mayor in a landslide.
He will serve his first full time as mayor of Ackerman. Cain was previously elected to serve as mayor in a special election in Feburary 2008.
He won against Tim Rogers in a hotly contested race in the General Election. The official certified results are Cain, 363 votes or 91 percent, and Rogers, 36 votes or 9 percent.
"Thank you for all your support and help during the election," said Cain after the results came in.
During the campaign, Cain said the Town of Ackerman has accomplished a lot in the past year and he wants to help achieve more.
"I believe that we have accomplished a lot this past year and by your continued support and input we can achieve much more," said Cain.
He plans to continue his open door policy that he adopted when elected as mayor.
"I have spoken to many of the townspeople personally or over the telephone and I appreciate all of your suggestions and input. The last year has not only been busy but also very exciting and fun," said Cain in his reelection announcement.
He said, he along with the Town will accomplish great things for Ackerman.
"Together we can accomplish great things for the Town of Ackerman. There will be no learning curve and I can "hit the floor running," said Cain.
He has been a resident of Ackerman for the past 21 years and is married to the former Nora Lynn McCullough. Cain is the father of three children and two stepchildren. He is, also, an active member of the Ackerman Baptist Church.
"I served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for nine years and obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class. I retired in November 2007 from Rowan Companies, Inc., a land and offshore drilling contractor, with over 26 years of service as a rig manager. My duties included establishing and maintaining budgets for the rig whose revenue was over $100 million annually. I directly supervised 95 persons, while negotiating contracts and enjoyed the day-to-day contact with the customers and public relation firms," said Cain about his past work experiences in his reelection announcement.
"I have been your Mayor for the past year and have utilized many skills that were acquired during my career and those skills have aided me in a smooth transition into the position of Mayor," said Cain.
