From press and staff reports
New children's books are filling the shelves at the Choctaw County Public Library in Ackerman.
A Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) federal grant of $5, 000 has been awarded to the Tombigbee Regional Library System for the Choctaw County Library through the Mississippi Library Commission. Funds from the grant will add over 400 new books to the children's and young adult collection in the library.
The new books will be used to support, supplement and enhance the local schools reading programs and research books.
Many of the books selected have been chosen from the Accelerated Reading Lists, and from suggestions of local teachers and parents.
The books include selections for upper elementary and high school. Books on history, science, the states, the U.S. Presidents, animals and biographies have been included along with best loved fiction. Easy readers and picture books have been selected for primary and preschool students.
"We are excited to be receiving the new children's books for the library," said Vonda Brandon, the Ackerman Branch Librarian. "The LSTA grant will enable us to provide our patrons with books that will foster a life-long love of reading and research," she said. "Come to the library, have a seat and 'check-out' the new books for your reports and fun reading."
