Municipal elections deadline expires

Only two seats are being challenged in three town elections since the qualifying deadline expired March 6. The next step is for each town's election commissioners to check each candidates' qualifying papers and signatures on their petitions.

¥ In the Town of Ackerman two turned in qualifying papers for the seat of Mayor of Ackerman. Tim Rogers is challenging incumbent Dick Cain.

The Ackerman Board of Aldermen seats have only one being challenged. Bill Taylor turned in qualifying papers along with incumbent George Rooks for Ward 3 alderman.

In Ward 2, incumbent Debby Curtis has decided not to seek reelection. Tommy Curtis is now seeking election in the Ward 2 seat.

Ward 1 Alderman Willie Miller Jr., Ward 4 Alderman Dale Reid and Alderman At-Large Carl "Barney" Phelps do not have any opponents.

¥ In the Town of French Camp all incumbents but one are seeking re-election. They are Mayor H. Glen Barlow and alderpersons William "Eddie" Robinson, Kim Hosket, Shellie Anderson and Jennifer Morgan.

Alderwoman Helen Branning has decided not to seek reelection. Rebekah P. Rogers has qualified to take Branning's seat for French Camp alderperson.

All French Camp alderpersons run at large.

¥ The Town of Weir had only four to turn in qualifying papers to run for alderpersons and one to run for Mayor.

Incumbent Mayor Lee James turned in qualifying papers with incumbent alderpersons Faytonia Fair, Mary Mack and Doug Atkinson. Billy Jo Miller also turned in his qualifying papers to run for alderperson. Glen Blaine has decided not to seek reelection.

All Weir alderpersons run at large.

Cindy Brooks, Weir town clerk, said since four people have turned in qualifying papers, the Town of Weir will have to hold a special election for the fifth alderperson seat, after the election commissioners declare the election a legal race.
