Local Veterans honored during the Millers-Colemans-Satterfields' Second Family Heritage Program

The Millers-Colemans-Satterfields' Foundation, Inc. hosted their Second Family Heritage Program on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the Mt. Salem United Methodist Church in French Camp. This year's theme was Connecting the Past to the Future...Rebuilding our Legacy, Proverbs 29:18. The purpose of the program was to celebrate family unity and pay special tributes to area veterans of the armed forces. Reverend Willie Young of Wesley United Methodist Church, Kosciusko was the guest evangelist. Allen Fletcher and Roy Hicks of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5051 were also in attendance and provided special remarks about the purpose of the VFW organization and the need for veterans to be more informed about the benefits.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to forty-four veterans for their meritorious service while serving in the armed forces of the United States. Their distinguished performance represents exemplary patriotism in the finest tradition. Veterans receiving this honor included Phillip Miller, J. W. Townsend, Rev. Willie Young, James C. Vaughns, Terry Satterfield, Sr., Reverend Burkey Thompson, Samuel Kennedy, Billy Whitfield, Dajuana Riley, Jamie Fair, Donald Carter, Rydell Ashford, John E. Seals, Tony Miller, Miller Seals, Louis Harmon, Levander Kirkwood, Frankie Kirkwood, Thelma Fancher, Bernard Hannah, Curtis Wayne McBride, Jimmy L. Martin, Danny McNutt, Garrett Thompson, Kenneth Fancher, James Coleman, Kenneth Coleman, Kither Coleman, Melvin Coleman, Cicero Satterfield, Reverend C. D. Miller, Tyann Riley, Floyd Whitfield, Conota Beasley, David Anderson, Warren Anderson, Sunshine Potts, Mark Carter, Edd Cork, Calvin McNutt, Barry McNutt, Lennis McNutt, Charles Kimbrough, and LaMarcus Thomas. A moment of silence was held in remembrance of ten deceased veterans. Following the meditation their families were presented certificates in their memory.
Awards of gratitude were presented to individuals for their devotion, effort and/or service to this program and the MCS Foundation. Receiving these awards were Reverend Willie Young for serving as the guest evangelist, Reverend David McNutt for serving as the officiating minister, Allen Fletcher of providing special remarks, and Union Choice Choir for providing special music. Phillip Miller, Cicero Satterfield and Terry Satterfield, Sr. were presented awards for their dedicated service to the foundation during the past four years.
Special recognition awards were presented to Roy Hicks for thirty-three years of military service, J. W. Townsend as the youngest veteran in attendance and James C. Vaughns as the oldest veteran in attendance. The family of Mattie Robinson was recognized as the largest family in attendance.
