Project Homestead is a statewide initiative forming community partnerships to protect vulnerable children and adults from abuse, neglect, or exploitation, support family preservation and community living, and prevent family violence and disruption.
Project Homestead is the community working together to provide families and children with permanency, safety, and well-being. Project Homestead believes that great things can happen when people work together. As the famous anthropologist, Margaret Mead, once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does."
Each year, the members of Project Homestead in Choctaw County select projects to work on during the year that will benefit the community. This year, the taskforce is holding a children's health fair to raise awareness of children's health and safety issues. In addition, the members have been discussing the formation of a military support group to aid families of soldiers that have been deployed overseas. Although these are the projects that Project Homestead is currently undertaking, the taskforce may choose another project later in the year.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at Pap's Place in Ackerman at 12 noon and is open to anyone who wants to attend.
