The Ackerman Board of Aldermen discuss the purchasing of new Welcome to Ackerman signs after approving to purchase the signs from Archie Pitts, of Starkville, last month.

Recently the board received a bid on the new Welcome signs from Swain Printing, of Louisville, for $2,125.

The board discussed the bid from Swain Printing and Archie Pitts, comparing the two. Pitts' bid for five signs was $2,300 and he provided possible designs.

Swain Printing's bid also included an installation and freight costs. The sign is also smaller than Pitts'.

Bobbye Webb, town clerk, said someone was asked to provide a design but was unable to be contacted.

After the discussion, the board approved a motion to table the subject until the next meeting to get more information.

The board also discussed the sign that will be placed at the Bruce Burney Memorial Walking Track but no action was taken.

By request of Ackerman Police Chief Rickey Thornton, the board approved to waive the insurance probation for Tim Pritchard, who was promoted to full-time APD officer.

"We really don't need him out there and risk him getting hurt," said Thornton before the vote.

They also approved two invoices one for work done at the airport for $1,254 for the Town's share of the work and for R&S Construction for work done on the lagoon

Travel expenses were also approved.

The aldermen entered into the minutes that Joe Griffin, board attorney, submitted an application to the United States Justice Department to hold the special election Jan. 28.
