The Choctaw County Courthouse and other county buildings have been under renovation. Part of the renovations at the Courthouse includes replacing the windows.
Several years ago, the county was awarded a Community Heritage Preservation grant, through the Department of Archives and History. The grant is for $169,200 grant with a county match of $43,300, totaling $211,500.
During the April 7, supervisor meeting, Don Threadgill, Chancery clerk, told the board that they have an estimate to replace the windows totaling at $325,000. He said the costs is only for purchasing the windows and installation.
Threadgill said this is the only estimate they have found from a company that the Department of Archives and History would accept.
After some discussion of the windows estimate, Threadgill reminded them that only $40,000 of their match has been budgeted for this project.
The county needs more than $100,000 to install the windows at the estimated price.
As the supervisors pointed out, the windowsills and casings need to be replaced or repaired, also.
The board discussed where the more than $100,000 would come from.
Threadgill said some of the money could possibly be taken from the law library fund to replace the windows in the law library.
"Some of the money from the law library could be used for windows on that side of the building," said Threadgill.
The supervisors agreed that they would like to replace the windows but are unsure of the price worth doing it.
Discussing the window project, brought up how other county funds are progressing.
Threadgill said that all of the budgets are in good shape.
"All budgets are doing pretty well. They are in good shape," said Threadgill.
After more discussion, the board approved to advertise for bids to replace the windows, but did not decide where the money would could from.
