Supes discuss variety of topics

The Choctaw Plaindealer

The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors discussed a variety of topics during their March 16 board meeting.

The board met with Jack Gordman of Gordman Insurance where they discussed a few changes in the county's insurance and Gap insurance plans and benefits. Gordman asked the board to renew their Blue Cross and Gap insurance through them. The board told him they would look into the insurance package.

Mike Hughes, of Weaver Insurance, visited with the supervisors asking them to ""Consider making me your agent for Blue Cross and Gap plan." He said right now, he splits commission with Gordman Insurance on their Blue Cross insurance and wants to become agent of record. The board said they would consider his request.

Later in the meeting, after a discussion the board approved to keep Gordman Insurance as agent of record and to approve the Blue Cross and Gap insurance quotes.

The supervisors also met with Bill Giller, with a company that provides court systems a secure website to collect payments online at no cost to the county. He explained how the system works and provided an Attorney General's opinion stating county's could accept payments online with the Board of Supervisors approval.

The board expressed their interest in the system and said they would look into it for more information.

Don Threadgill, Chancery clerk, told the board that the county was short $18,000 in February because of the legislature dealing with the car tag reimbursement and credit. He suspects the county will be short in March and April, also.

"If we are losing $8,000 to $10,000, the school is losing that, too," said Theadgill.

He said the county would have to make up the difference to school plus absorb the county's cutback.

"It's double to the county," said Threadgill.

In the meeting, Choctaw County Sheriff Cloyd Halford requested to build a fence at the Sheriff's Office per state order.

A motion was made to recognize his request to build a fence at the CCSO and the board took it under advisement.
