The Choctaw County Animal Clinic is raising funds to create an animal shelter. They are looking for a building or lot for the animal shelter. If you know of a building or lot that would be free to use or for sale at a reasonable price call Rita Morris at 285-9006.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

Fall Festival

John Wesley Miller Community Foundation will hold a Fall Festival Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Weir Co-op. It will start at 3 p.m.. There will be games, a cake walk, bingo, and a consession stand. Gospel singing
Nov. 28
There will be a gospel singing program, Saturday, Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Millspring M.B. Church in Weir. The program is featuring Gospelations of Columbus, Mt. Olivet Praise Team of Starkville, Heaven sent of Columbus, Brothers for Christ of Goodman, Gospel Travelers and Union Choice of Weir. Come and help us lift up the name of Jesus in songs and praises.

Christmas Trees Needed for
Holiday Open House
Deadline Dec. 1
The annual Holiday Open House will be held Thursday, Dec. 10 at the Choctaw County Library. Youth and adult groups, organizations and churches are encouraged to decorate a Christmas tree for the Holiday Open House. Christmas. Trees may be real or artificial. We ask that no food items be used as decoration and no glitter be used. The public will vote for their favorite tree and a People's Choice Award will be awarded. If your group/organization would like to put up a tree, contact Juli Hughes, Choctaw County Extension Office, at 285-6337 or by email jhughes@ext.msstate.edu by December 1.

Christmas Parade Entry Deadline

The deadline for submitting entries in the Ackerman Christmas Parade is Tuesday, Dec. 1. Entry forms may be picked up, mailed, for faxed from Ackerman Town Hall.
The Christmas Parade will be held Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is "A Christmas Wish List." For more information on the parade, contact Ackerman Town Hall at 285-6251.

The Making of Pepper-Jack Cheese Smoked Sausage

Join us from the meat lab to see how pepper-jack cheese smoked sausage is made on Dec. 3 at noon at the Choctaw Co. Extension Office. This program is by interactive video on Dec. 3 from noon-1 p.m. at the Choctaw County Extension Office. There is no charge. Christmas Parade
Dec. 3
The Town of Ackerman will host the annual Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is "A Christmas Wish List." The parade route will begin at Ackerman High School an will travel west down Main Street, continue through two 4-way stop signs, to the intersection of Highway 15. The parade route turn right onto Highway 15, travel north to Cherry Street, take a right and continue to the Baptist Church.
"Breakfast with Santa"
Dec. 5
The Ackerman Student Government Association will be hosting "Breakfast with Santa" on Dec. 5 in the high school cafeteria from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 am. Arts and crafts, games, and a photo with Santa along with breakfast are all included in the ticket price. In addition, a "Santa's Toy Shop" of used toys in very good to excellent condition will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. You may contact any SGA member to purchase a ticket or contact sponsor Billie Jean Fulton at 803-2607 for more information.
Handmade Christmas Craft and Bake Sale

Come join the Mathiston United Methodist Church for a cup of coffee and shop for unique Christmas gifts, Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m.-noon in the Fellowship Hall, located on Hwy.15. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Heifer International Fund, a mission project to end world hunger. www.heifter.org.

Food Drive
Deadline Dec. 16
WTVA is sponsoring a food drive to collect items for local food banks. They have asked the Choctaw County Extension office to help with this project. Canned food and non-perishable food items collected at our office will go to Broken Wings Ministry. Food items may be brought to the Choctaw County Extension Office. Master Gardener Training Offered
Deadline Feb. 3
Master Gardener training will be conducted Feb. 23 - April 1, 2010 every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Training will be conducted via interactive video. Cost is $85 which includes notebook, materials & refreshments. Topics to be taught include: basic botany, soils, vegetables, weed science, lawns, ornamentals, fruits & nuts, entomology, plant diseases, invasive plants and plant propagation.
