FCE students become published authors
Kim McDaniel, a Pre-Kindergarten teacher, recently coordinated a "Student Treasure" literary program at FCE.
Students in grades pre-K through sixth participated in a free, student publishing, writing program. Nation-wide Learning is a company dedicated to motivating children to learn through publishing.
FCE students designed classbooks and individual books in a complete "start to finish" process. Using their imagination and their own creative thoughts, each child became the author and illustrator of his/her own book.
French Camp teachers began incorporating this new writing philosophy into the curriculum upon returning for the New Year. Once individual and classbook manuscripts were finally complete, they were then sent to the publishing company.
The individual Books, as well as classbooks (for grades Pre-K thru 2nd) were then processed, hard-bound and returned to the students to keep.
The goal of this program encourages even the most reluctant writer, strengthens kids' self-confidence, rewards interest and promotes a positive attitude towards literature.
FCE students eagerly worked on stories and illustrations as they gained knowledge and a new understanding concerning the process of writing.
As shown in the "related" pictures, you can see how excited FCE students were to share their completed "published" books and become genuine authors. They made true works of art...a forever keepsake.
